The six (the foundation, at least, as there could be more) components of an apology. The bottom line? Very few people know how to genuinely apologise.
- An expression of regret — this, usually, is the actual “I’m sorry.”
- An explanation (but, importantly, not a justification).
- An acknowledgement of responsibility.
- A declaration of repentance.
- An offer of repair.
- A request for forgiveness.
The original article is well worth reading. I found it to be excellent.
