Yesterday a neighbour messaged me. She wanted to know who we were using for lawn treatment and pest control. “Our lawn is a mess”, she said, “I am ready to fire the company we are using”. I gave her the information about ours, and she asked if they also did lawn service, mowing, bush trimming, that kind of thing. I told her that I didn’t know, that it wouldn’t hurt to ask, but that these days prices were too high; “that’s why I suffer and do it myself”.
Then she opened up. Her husband has been diagnosed with dementia and no longer has the ability to mow their own lawn. See, recently I noticed our side of the lawn was mowed, and mowed way too short. Occasionally I would mow some of theirs, and he would mow some of ours, but never, ever, that low. It looked so bad I told Horsie I would talk to him to tell him it was OK not to “help” me anymore. She convinced me not to do it, and I am glad I listened. He didn’t do it purposely. At all.
I felt sad. Very, very sad. He was fine, less than four months ago. No wonder I haven’t seen him much lately. 😞
